Saying Happy Holidays at Work with Toilet Paper

December 9, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Showing the holiday spirit on the office is supposed to be the name of the game this time of year, but does giving a co-worker a package of toilet paper really say “Happy Holidays?”

A new CareerBuilder survey of unusual gifts workers received from coworkers found that, in addition to a 20-roll toilet paper package, other responses included:

  • A bag of ice;
  • a bra; and
  • a coupon to a strip club.

Other wacky office holiday gifts included a dickie, a unicorn, a used cookbook, a sweater turtleneck covered in piranhas, and a CD of the giver singing badly.

Overall, a quarter of workers say they plan to buy holiday gifts for co-workers this year, compared to 22% who plan to buy their boss a gift. The majority (86%) of workers buying gifts say they plan to spend $25 or less on average for each holiday gift they buy for the office.

The nationwide poll was conducted between August 17 and September 2, 2010, and included more than 3,600 workers and more than 2,600 employers.
