Boomers not Considering Future Housing Needs
June 21, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - According to a survey from The Hartford and the MIT AgeLab, 50% of boomers want to stay in their current home as they age, but most have no plans in place.

While 77% have talked to their spouse or partner about future housing needs, only 29% have made a plan. Ninety-six percent indicated they are aware of changes they could make to their current home to make it more comfortable as they age, but only 26% have made such changes.
Being close to family is the number one factor for boomers in deciding where to live as they age. Feeling comfortable in their home and affordability were other important factors.
The Hartford telephone survey was conducted by TNS the week of March 14, 2011. TNS contacted a nationally representative sample of 609 adults over the age of 40 in the United States via computer generated RDD.
