South Korea Court Says Employers Can't Force Workers to Drink

Seoul, South Korea does not look favorably upon employers who
force their workers to drink after work, according to an AFP
news report.

The court ruled in favor of a 28-year old former employee of a software games developer who sued her former employer on charges that her boss forced her to drink with the rest of the staff after work.
“Forcing drinking against (an employee’s) limit and willingness infringes on personal rights,” the court said in a statement, according to the news service. A lower court ruled in her favor, but the appeals court hiked the award to about $32,300.
The woman said she had to attend at least two after-work drinking sessions per week, after joining the company in April 2004. She quit her job after two months and filed the lawsuit.
